Skincare habits I Stick To During The Fall Season
I don’t believe in completely changing your routine every time the season changes, but I do think a few simple adjustments can make a big difference. Every season brings something new, and just like I start reaching for different pieces in my wardrobe when fall arrives, I also like to switch up my skincare routine a little. As the temperatures drop and the air gets cooler and drier, my skin usually starts asking for something different too. These are the skincare habits I like to stick to during fall.

Switch to a gentler cleanser
One of the first things I notice when the seasons change is that my skin simply doesn’t tolerate an overly aggressive cleanser in the same way it might during summer. In warmer months, when we’re sweating more and dealing with excess oil, a stronger cleanser can feel refreshing, but once fall arrives, it can leave the skin feeling too tight. That is why I always switch to a gentler, hydrating cleanser that won't leave my skin feeling like it has been completely stripped of every last drop of moisture.
Don’t completely give up on exfoliation
Dry, flaky skin can be one of the less glamorous parts of the change of season, and this is where regular exfoliation can make a big difference. Getting rid of the buildup of dead skin cells helps the complexion look smoother and brighter, while also allowing the rest of your skincare routine to work more effectively.
That said, I think this is one area where more definitely isn’t better. If my skin already feels dry or sensitive, I would rather exfoliate less frequently than overdo it. Once a week is more than enough for me in these colder months, but make sure to check how your skin feels, because everyone is different.

SPF stays in my routine
UV exposure doesn’t disappear just because the temperature drops or the sky is cloudy. And since protecting your skin from UV damage is one of the most important things you can do for its long-term appearance and health, SPF remains a non-negotiable part of my morning routine throughout the year. Keep in mind this is not just a a “summer product” and simply make it part of your everyday skincare.
Give your skin a post-summer reset
If you’re interested in professional treatments, autumn can also be a good time to look into skin rejuvenation procedures, particularly treatments that require you to be more careful about sun - and it is also a perfect time to reset your skin after all that heat.
Chemical peels, laser treatments and procedures such as microneedling or microdermabrasion are among the options people often consider for improving the appearance of uneven tone, texture and signs of sun exposure. Of course, this is something I would always discuss with a qualified dermatologist or skincare professional first, since the right treatment really depends on your skin and its individual needs.

Bring out a richer moisturizer
This probably sounds like the most basic advice, but I think we all need a little reminder. As soon as I start feeling that familiar tightness after cleansing, I know it’s time to swap my lighter summer moisturizer for something richer! I like formulas that feel nourishing without necessarily being incredibly heavy, especially during the day, but I definitely want something that helps keep moisture locked into the skin. Also, I make an effort to moisturize twice a day during fall: once in the morning and again before bed because consistency really makes the biggest difference.
