Long Skirt - The Most Underrated Piece In Your Closet

Long skirts are often overlooked because people think they are conservative, and difficult to style, which is far from true in my opinion.

A long skirt elongates the body and allows you to build contrast on top of it. When you style it correctly, it looks very polished and powerful.

Here are six examples of how I styled it and why you should wear it more often.

All Black Look

The skirt is sleek and minimal, without unnecessary volume. The structured jacket with a defined waist creates shape. The belt is very important here because it prevents the silhouette from becoming flat and breaks it perfectly, giving it the shape that you want.

The long skirt works here because it creates elongates the whole look, keeps it elegant and balances the strong shoulders.

Brown Matching Leather Set

Leather with a long skirt instantly looks elevated.

The key here is proportion because the coat is long and structured, so the skirt needs to follow that line. Leopard heels are there to bring some "spice" to the monochromatic look and make it more interesting.

The long skirt works here because the leather in a shorter length can look aggressive and sometimes even inappropriate, but in a long silhouette, it becomes sophisticated.

White Shirt and Black Skirt

This is the cleanest way to style a long skirt because the contrast between white and black keeps the look sharp.

The long skirt works here because it makes the classic white shirt look more modern, elongates the body and turns this simple outfit into something more chic. This is a perfect minimal outfit that is suitable for almost any occasion.

Light Blue Sweater and Long Skirt

This outfit shows how a long skirt can soften a look without losing elegance.

The sweater is relaxed and cozy, but the skirt and the high waist define shape, and add femininity.

The long skirt works here because it balances oversized knitwear and it makes the casual pieces look refined.

If you wear oversized on top, you need length on the bottom.

Jacket With Long White Skirt

This is another great example of contrast. The jacket is sharp and while the skirt is soft and voluminous. The contrast between the two makes the outfit interesting.

The long skirt works here because the length of the skirt keeps the look elegant, while also allowing the top to remain powerful.
