Summer Trends I am Taking Into Autumn
I refuse to accept that the moment September arrives, I suddenly have to pack away everything I loved wearing all summer. Instead of buying an entirely new wardrobe for autumn (as a lot of us do), I’ve been looking at trends that had a major moment this summer and thinking about how I can make them work next season too.
Before we all reach for chunky knits and dramatically start pretending summer never happened, these are the trends I will be bringing with me into autumn.
Color isn’t going anywhere
If there is one thing I’m absolutely not leaving behind this summer, it’s color. This summer, we saw colors like cobalt blue and soft pink appearing everywhere and taking over our wardrobes, and luckily for those of us who have already invested in them, these colors have plenty of life left in them.
The easiest way to make a bright summer color feel autumnal is simply to change what you pair it with. A soft pink skirt suddenly feels completely different with a chocolate-brown knit, and cobalt trousers become much more seasonally appropriate with a camel jacket or an oversized grey blazer.

Strapless pieces deserve a longer life
A strapless dress or bandeau top might seem like one of those very obviously summer-only trends, but I actually think this silhouette becomes even more interesting when the weather gets cooler.
Take the strapless dress and add an oversized cardigan, a structured blazer or a boxy wool coat - the exposed shoulders won’t feel like a beach holiday outfit anymore, but become the core part of the entire look.
The same goes for bandeau tops - instead of styling them with denim shorts and flip-flops, try them with tailored trousers, a midi skirt or layered underneath a slightly oversized jacket.

Sheer layers and the return of “underwear as outerwear”
This trend has been floating around for a while, but I think autumn is actually when it becomes the most wearable.
Instead of the light, barely-there styling we associate with summer, autumn gives sheer pieces a moodier, more layered feel. A sheer blouse underneath a blazer, a beautiful bra subtly visible under an oversized shirt or a corset layered over a simple T-shirt - these are all perfect for cool autumn fits.

The boat neck will stay
The boat neck is one of those small details that can completely change an otherwise simple outfit. A basic long-sleeved top suddenly feels more elegant, and a knit looks more refined.
Even a simple black dress becomes a little more interesting if it has a boat neck I also love that it gives you that slightly dressed-up, preppy feeling without requiring any actual effort.

Animal print is getting a little wilder
We've spent plenty of time with leopard print, zebra stripes and every possible variation of faux animal textures this summer. However, tiger print is starting to have its moment and it is perfect for autumn. Before you panic: I am not suggesting we all immediately run out and buy a tiger- print faux-fur coat. You can do it in small does - a printed blouse with a simple outfit, a little scarf or a pair of shoes. It really gives a special energy to the look and is an easy way to make an
outfit more interesting.
