5 Things I Do Instead Of Doomscrolling

I have a slightly complicated relationship with my phone because, in many ways, it’s also my office. As a fashion influencer, I spend a lot of time on social media because it’s a huge part of my job, but I still need to make a difference between intentional scrolling and mindlessly getting lost online for hours. I’m not trying to quit my phone (I couldn’t even if I wanted to), but I do love having a few offline rituals I turn to when I need a break from the endless scroll.

Read something long-form

My favorite antidote to doomscrolling is going for slower and more intentional content on various topics. As someone who switched from the life of a doctor to an influencer lifestyle, I am always looking for interesting essays and topics related to the medical field, and trying to explore the new findings and research just for the sake of it.
I also love reading personal essays and collections, and allowing myself to focus on one person’s thoughts instead of absorbing hundreds of opinions in a few minutes. Especially when my everyday work involves trends, algorithms, and constant online inspiration, I love returning to books that have nothing to do with what is currently trending.

Have a Good Workout

Nothing beats that feeling after you gave everything you had in the gym or after the long run. All that time spent on the phone really messes with your mind in some way, and my body simply needs that workout to have a kind of a reset. It allows me to release all the negative energy I have built up, regain my focus, and prepare for the rest of the day.
I try having it in the morning because it really is the best way to start your day, but a quick 30-minute training session in the middle of the day is also a nice way to clear your mind.

Do a Sudoku or crosswords

If there is one thing I love to do, it is sudoku or any type of crossword. You can call me a grandma, but this is what I love to do when I just want to rewind and not think about anything else. It gives me that same satisfying feeling of solving something and keeping my brain occupied, but instead of taking in more information, I’m actively using my mind.

Take a Walk

I try to stay as active as possible in my daily life, so I take a walk basically whenever I can.
However, I recently decided to start walking without any devices on me, with no music, podcasts, or other background noise. I just walk around and observe nature, and trust me, I feel like I started getting even more creative and inspired since I started doing this.

Experiment With Clothes I Already Own

As someone who works in fashion, I obviously love finding outfit inspiration online. Saved folders, Pinterest boards, and Instagram mood boards are a huge part of my creative process, but I think we all rely on them too much for inspiration.
Nowadays, when I feel the urge to scroll for outfit ideas, I’ll open my wardrobe and start experimenting. I’ll style pieces I haven’t worn in a while, try different combinations, play with accessories, or find a new way to wear an old favorite - and this is how I come up with some of the best outfits. Trust me, we all should spend more time in our closets playing dress up, because the things I managed to come up with were incredible.
