How To Create Perfect Photos During Sunset
Sunset photos seem like the type of content that always looks effortless, but there is actually quite a bit of planning behind those dreamy golden-hour moments.
These are the tips I always keep in mind when I want my photos to look like that perfect sunset moment straight out of a movie!
1. Don’t rush the timing
My biggest tip is always to stay a little longer than you think, because golden hour isn't necessarily the best moment for a perfect photo. The best colors often appear after the sun has already gone down, when the sky starts turning soft pink, orange, and purple. Trust me, those are a few extra minutes that can completely transform your little shoot, so if you have the perfect sunset spot, do not go home too early.

2. Use the light to create that dreamy glow
I think everyone loves golden hour because the light is softer and more flattering, and in general, it tends to be the moment when everyone's photos turn out good, even if you are a complete amateur. I love having the sun behind me during golden hour to make sure I create that beautiful glow around the hair and edges of the photo. It gives that effortless, magical feeling, and you do not need much editing either.
3. Scout your location before you shoot
I always think about the location first because the sunset is only one part of the photo. I always look for places with interesting backgrounds, reflections, trees, buildings, beaches, or little details that make the image feel more unique. Also, think about how that background will interact with the light once the sun is setting down, or if you have enough time, check the location a day before the scheduled shooting to see which angles work the best.

4. Take both close-ups and wide shots
One thing I always do during a sunset shoot is capture different perspectives. Before, I would just do hundreds of wide photos, but then I realized that I was missing out on so many amazing shots. A wide photo shows the whole atmosphere, while close-up shots capture the little details that make the moment feel personal and, to be honest, cooler for your Instagram grid.
5. Let the wind work for you
If you’re shooting your outfits or other types of fashion content, movement makes everything feel more alive. A little wind in your hair, a flowy dress, or walking naturally will make a photo feel much more effortless, but still professional enough that it reminds you of something straight out of an editorial.

6. Edit to enhance, not change
My favorite sunset photos usually don't need much help. I like bringing back details in the shadows, lowering highlights so the sky keeps its color, and adding a warmer tone to make the golden-hour feeling stand out. You do not need to retouch it for hours, because once you use the 5 previous tips, you will see how good your photos can look naturally!
